For Nia Samuel, creativity and spirituality have long existed side by side. A mixed media artist and tarot reader, Nia brings both worlds together through a practice shaped by intuition, spiritual tradition, and more than eight years of experience with tarot.

As one of our tarot readers at The Metaphysical Shoppe in Jersey City, Nia has also become a familiar face to many in our community. We asked her to share a little about the journey that brought her here, her spiritual practices, and what she hopes clients take away from a reading.

Here’s Nia in Her Own Words

Hi, I’m Nia Samuel, a mixed media artist from New York and a recent Studio Art graduate with a minor in Art History. You can find me at The Metaphysical Shoppe on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, assisting customers, leading workshops, and offering tarot readings. This job has enriched my spiritual journey and deepened my appreciation for the Jersey City community.

My spiritual journey began in childhood with clairvoyant abilities, speaking to the deceased and passing messages. Encouraged by my family and intuition, I learned tarot and explored religions, herbs, and Afro-Diasporic practices.

Despite not having many family members who focus on the same practices, an aunt shared my metaphysical interests. Her passing left me with her books and wisdom, continuing to guide me.

I practice Haitian Vodou and Yoruba spirituality, integrating them into my art. The Justice card in tarot resonates with me, symbolizing personal rebirth and its blessings, a theme that resonates deeply with me and my practice.

In my tarot readings, clients receive a 30-minute session with explanations, messages from loved ones, life advice, and guidance. I always aim to leave clients with courage.

Over 8 years, I’ve enjoyed bringing clarity to many people. Spirit has shown me that even in dark times, support is always available.
